Equality & Diversity Policy

Our commitment to inclusion, anti-discrimination, and equal opportunities for all.

Last updated: March 2026

1. Introduction

The Royal Twirling Association (RTA) is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of baton twirling and majorette activities. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the sport, regardless of their background or personal characteristics.

2. Our Commitment

The RTA will not discriminate against any individual on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic origin), religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

These are known as protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, and the RTA is committed to upholding the principles of this legislation in all its activities.

3. Participation

The RTA welcomes participants of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels. We will make reasonable adjustments to enable individuals with disabilities to participate in our events and activities where it is safe and practicable to do so.

Competition categories and age groups are designed to provide fair and inclusive opportunities for dancers at all stages of their development.

4. Language & Behaviour

All individuals associated with the RTA are expected to use respectful and inclusive language at all times. Discriminatory language, jokes, or behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with under the RTA Code of Conduct and Complaints & Disciplinary Policy.

5. Recruitment & Volunteering

The RTA is committed to equal opportunities in the recruitment and selection of officials, judges, volunteers, and committee members. Appointments are made on the basis of skills, experience, and suitability for the role.

6. Reporting Concerns

Any person who believes they have been subject to discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment in connection with the RTA should report their concern to the RTA committee at admin@royaltwirlingassociation.co.uk. All reports will be treated seriously and investigated in accordance with the Complaints & Disciplinary Policy.

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually. The next review date is March 2027.
